Much ado about Nothing

When was the last time you sat absolutely idle doing nothing, not even an iota of thought meddling with your brain? This concept of doing nothing is seen with disdain by the world which is always in a hurry. Mostly, we have been hurrying through with our choices, decisions and life itself. There is a lot more to this phase when we seem to be idle, but can be the most productive time of our life.

We seem to react without giving a thought, pausing for a moment or giving it a thought from all perspectives. We have all fallen for this trap. While doing nothing and living life at a slow pace is seen as something regressive or not perceived as not being attuned to the society.

Who creates society? We are the architects of our society and with the task of decision making being bestowed upon on select few, the opinions of the masses goes unheard. It is more of a situation that we are not thinking the way we would want to, but thinking from a reflected perspective. This scenario of ‘one decision fits all’ does not work.

We as a society fail to communicate effectively and thus our thoughts and ideas remain with us and more often than not find the right platform. While we do nothing, our subconscious mind becomes more active and allows us to analyze our thoughts at leisure. This is the time when we seem to debate and come up with questions which we had never asked before and look at situations in our life and in society from different perspectives.

When we converse with our self, we tend to listen to the inner voice with clarity. Usually, we tend to submerge this voice deliberately so that we can conform and be accepted. Lot many times we seem to loathe the fact of going out alone or doing some activity alone.
We always want to be surrounded by others. Being alone and being lonely are different. One can enjoy alone time and still not be lonely while sometimes we feel lonely even in a crowd or while surrounded by people.

We have to steer away from definitions and labeling. This has been the bane of our society. We limit ourselves and thus draw the line and cannot explore those facets of life which are beautiful. We need to pace our lives, according to our convenience and comfort level. No one should hurry you to life the way everybody else is doing.

Comparisons are very restricting and no two individuals are the same. Although we talk about diversity and how beautiful this society and becomes more vibrant, we need to practice it and thus become more accepting. Sometimes doing nothing can be more productive than rushing through a packed schedule without getting a breather.

Make life more enjoyable, do the things that make the heart happy and keeps the mind peaceful. Life is what we make of it. It is our choices and decisions which will make this journey worthwhile and enjoyable.
